Against my Better Judgement, publishing kolich.com Referrer Log Data

Thumbnail image for apache.gifAgainst my better judgment, I've decided to publicly publish my latest kolich.com referrer log data for Oct 2008 through Jan 2009.  You can find my full referrer log here.  However, before I published it, I took some time to crawl through the log and remove all obvious referrer spam.  Many system administrators blindly publish complete referrer logs without stripping out the spam; this is bad, and only helps perpetuate the evil and ongoing referrer spam cycle.  Even after I stripped out the referrer spam, I still found a few very interesting log entries ...
Take this one for example:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=filetype:pdf+caylee+anthony+dna&start=10&sa=N

Someone at 71.223.70.235 was doing a search for a PDF file that dealt with the recent Caylee Anthony homicide case.  I'm not sure how anything on kolich.com relates to Caylee Anthony, but it's interesting that my blog appeared in the Google search results for this query.

Here's another one:

http://aolsearcht5.search.aol.com/aol/search?query=Carona+is+now+a+convicted+felon

Someone at 207.200.116.72 ran an AOL search for "Carona is now a convicted felon" and stumbled across my post on the bottle of wine I won from ex-Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona (before he became a convicted felon).  If I break this one down a little bit, I suspect that this was a family member of Carona (maybe his wife?) running a search to see where the recent news of his conviction appeared on the web.  This is an AOL Search; only spoiled Orange County housewives use AOL.  It had to be Carona's wife, or one of his many known mistresses.

And another:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22Microsoft+Communicator%22+annoyances

Someone at 192.44.136.113 (the Procter and Gamble Company) ran a Google search on "Microsoft Communicator" annoyances and hit my post on how much I hate Microsoft Communicator.  This is interesting, because I suspect someone in the IT department of P&G is considering moving the companies internal instant messaging solution to Microsoft Communicator.  As a result, they were doing a little web research to see what other folks thought of Communicator.  Or, maybe Microsoft hired P&G as a consultant to improve Communicator, but I'm not sure if P&G is into consulting.

And finally:

http://www.google.com/search?q=meebo+interview

Someone at 69.91.164.74 (University of Washington) ran a Google search on "meebo interview" and found the post where I publicly answered several of the pre-screen Meebo interview questions.  I suspect a student at the University of Washington was looking for a few tips/hits re: an interview at Meebo, and luckily, found my blog.  Well kid, hope it helped!

I have no idea if any of my claims above are accurate.  I'm only guessing, and I'm probably wrong.   But it sure is fun to think about.
